Employee Training
Training should occur on an ongoing basis, not just when you hire someone new. Have your team complete a needs assessment to determine your training strategy and assign due dates. Follow up and consider discussing ongoing training goals during performance reviews.
Create and utilize a training checklist —
With the abundance of new carrier appointments, logins, web trainings, in-house training, and job shadowing, it can be easy to overwhelm your new hire. Create a checklist, go over the plan together, and check in on the progress at least weekly, if not daily, for the first month.
Assign a mentor —
Discuss expectations with the mentor and follow up with them to see how things are going. If you have several new employees, this ensures they always have someone, other than you, to go to for guidance.

Carrier Schools —
Many companies, such as Hartford and Safeco, offer excellent training programs for both producers and CSRs. They offer courses for new and seasoned agents. Talk to your local marketing rep about how to get started. If you plan ahead, they may even have funds to help alleviate the cost to your agency.
TotalCSR —
TotalCSR is an agency development platform that all agencies now have access to, at no additional cost! This site enables you to assess personnel to identify insurance industry knowledge gaps, assign training modules, and track their progress along the way. It's a great way to teach, or reinforce, general personal insurance principles, as well as soft skills and sales training that your entire team can benefit from. There are even modules for managers to sharpen their leadership and communication skills.
