Prepare to make your new employee's experience extraordinary!
Tips to Improve Your Onboarding Process
Prepare colleagues for the new employee.
Prepare workspace, equipment, and technology.
Make introductions
Allow plenty of time for training.
Send an email introducing your new hire and ask everyone to join you in welcoming them. Include the new hire's personal email address so everyone can join you in welcoming them to the agency.
Communicate expectations with everyone involved. For example, inform your admin or phone team on when your new hire will likely be taking clients/calls, and ask team members if they are willing to be their assigned mentor, take them on calls, or job shadow with them. Let their future teammates (if applicable) know what the training timeline will look like and how it will impact them.
Complete the online new hire form, order equipment, set up phone, and make sure everything is working before their first day! Assign someone to clean up the workspace, set up equipment, and have office supplies ready to go. A small welcome gift, such as a Leavitt Group coffee cup or water bottle is also a nice touch! Your agency can sign up to have your new hire receive an LG welcome gift.
Walk around the office or hold a Zoom call to introduce the new employee to their colleagues. Talk about your company culture, goals, and expectations. The company's leaders or long-tenured employees may want to give a presentation on the agency's vision and culture. Tell stories that help bring the information to life.
Modify your training plan to suit the employee. Ask them what they prefer, such as hands-on training, job shadowing teammates, or online webinars.
