Education While Earning Designations
National Alliance Designations (CISR, CIC, CRM)
These are in-depth insurance-related courses that earn you continuing education (CE) hours as well as designations. Once you have your CIC or CRM designation, you are required to attend one class each year to maintain your designation, which satisfies your insurance license CE requirements. - The Certified Insurance Service Representatives (CISR) designation program is a nationally recognized educational program for customer service representatives. This practical program includes nine courses focused on minimizing E&O claims and understanding and analysis of risks and exposures. Some working knowledge of the applicable policies is required.
- To earn the designation, you must complete five CISR courses and pass the exams that follow within three calendar years.
- The nine CISR courses to choose from are Agency Operations, Commercial Casualty I, Commercial Casualty II, Elements of Risk Management, Insurance Commercial Property, Insuring Personal Auto Exposures, Insuring Personal Residential Property, Life & Health Essentials, and Other Personal Lines Solutions.
- The Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) program is a nationally recognized and highly respected insurance professional designation for agency owners, producers, agents, CSRs, brokers, and insurance company personnel.
- To earn the designation, you must complete five of the CIC courses and pass the required exams within five years (or four CIC classes and one CRM class).
- The seven CIC courses to choose from are Agency Management, Commercial Casualty, Commercial Multiline, Commercial Property, Personal Lines, Life & Health, and Insurance Company Operations.
- The Certified Risk Manager (CRM) program will help you gain expertise and credibility with your organization and in the risk management community. It is for a variety of professionals, including accountants, attorneys, financial and insurance professionals, and specialists in loss control.
- To earn the designation, you must complete five CRM courses and pass the required exams within five years.
- The five CRM courses to complete are Principles of Risk Management, Analysis of Risk, Control of Risk, Financing of Risk, and Practice of Risk Management.

CIAB Sprints
A Sprint combines online, self-paced learning with activities and live virtual sessions that reinforce understanding and provide opportunities to apply the material to real-world scenarios. Each class is $199 and once all four classes are successfully completed, the participant can earn their APRI (Accredited Professional in Risk and Insurance) designation while earning CE. Each course is anywhere from one to three weeks with an average of four hours per week in required work.
